Oregano & thyme are good Mediterranean herbs ...
If you fancy growing some ... they grow super easy which cannot be said for Basil which can be a bit temperamental ...
I am growing a few in the normal garden ... but have a couple pushed in with the tomato's in a trough ... and one oregano growing in a crack at the side of the patio ... It's been super happy & vigorous there for three years now ...
Generally Med' herbs like it tough ...LittleBill ... "The riches of a man can be measured by what he can do without"0 -
I make pesto out of whatever fresh herbs I have to hand - basil, mint, chives, oregano, lemon balm, thyme, corriander, parsley.

The herbs go with the sauce, more than the pasta itself. Basil and tomato are a classic combination. Oregano and tomato is the classic combination for pizza toppings.
I tend to use parsley for British dishes, because it grows naturally here.
If all else fails, a jar of dried mixed herbs covers all bases at minimum cost.
PS. I now can't remember if I put the parsley in the cottage pie I did for the freezer over the weekend! B*gg*r.
PPS. Panic over. I checked my recipe, and it didn't say to add any.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

LittleBill, I always used to have problems with Basil........then I discovered, if you leave it until it's really droopy, then drown it with water (it'll pick back up), then leave until it's droopy again, it really thrives! I used to kill mine with kindness I think :rotfl:Proud to be dealing with my debts :T
