You should get that sorted out. You don't want to be on a month 1 code (that's what the M1 stands for).
Have you worked previously in this tax year (started 6 April 2005). If you have, make sure your employer has your P45 from your last job. If you already gave it to them, then ring up your tax office to discuss it and be put on a cumulative code.
If you haven't worked, the quickest way to sort it would be to contact your tax office and ask to be put on a cumulative code.0 -
There are 5 Thursdays in December this year,so you will probably not be paid until after Christmas.Unless your co pays you early - in which case it`s a long time before January`s pay.0

Did you give your P45 to your employer in time for the payroll run? If so, they should have known your correct tax code and you need to speak to them about that it.
If you didn't, you need to do so now.0 -
yeah i gave my p45 to them in time, my tax code on that was 489L, i just dont know what the M1 is for?
Cheers0 -
The month1 means that you are not gaining the full benefit of your personal allowance and starting rate of tax. You are just getting a proportion of it each pay day. The result being that if your earnings were previously quite low (as they would be if you have been unemployed) that you will end up possibly paying too much tax.
As you gave your P45 to your employer, they should be operating the correct code , which they aren't. Talk to them and ask them to use the right code, as shown on your P45.
If you have no luck, or if your P45 DID show a week1 code (There would have been an X after the code on the P45 if this is the case) then ring up your tax office and explain the situation to them.0 -
On the orignal issue of the gross pay; I work with payrolls and when a new employee has started, we will work out the total number of possible working days in the pay period, and divide the number of days the employee has worked by that.
1212.12 is exactly 10/11ths of 1333.33; so I would suggest the payroll office has worked out that out of a possible 22 days work you worked 20.0 -
hi, well as i am paid every 4 weeks that would make sense, but i am still confused? shouldnt 4 weeks (20days) @ 16k be 1230.76 gross?
thanks0 -
If you are paid on the last Thursday of every month you are NOT paid every 4 weeks! There is only one 'last Thursday of the month' so you are being paid monthly!!!!!
Sorry, but this is important, because you will be paid 12 times a year, not 13 (a previous poster is correct, if you WERE paid every 4 weeks, you would be paid 13 times a year).Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0
