hi there, recently started a new job, and after recieving my first payslip for my first months (4weeks, mon-fri) work i wasnt too sure if a mistake had been made!
i was on 16,000 gross a year pro rata which i made 1333.33 ? am i wrong?
anyway my payslip as follows,
1212.12 gross
155.75 tax
88.66 NI
967.71 Net
next month will be different too as my salary has increased by 2k, so i would like to try and figure out (correctly) what i should be bringing in then..
Many Thanks

The £1212 is pretty close to what it should be for four weeks work, which is not the same as one month. To get four weeks pay, divide by 13, not 12 (a month is a bit longer than four weeks).
Are you paid monthly or every four weeks? If it's monthly, I guess this time they've given you less because you haven't worked a full month. If the latter, you'll get 13 of these per year instead of 12!
If you want to make sure your tax and NI payments are correct, the Inland Revenue website shoud have the current rates somewhere.

Not sure how familiar you are with how the tax system works? Can explain more if you want.0 -
There are 52 weeks and 1 day in a year.
So the pay for 4 weeks could be about £1227.39
This is not what you got but it is nearer................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -
It's difficult to tell you if it's correct due to lack of information, eg...
1. Are you paid monthly or 4 weekly, ie salary/12 or salary/365*28 days?
2. What's your tax code?
3. Do you pay into a company (final salary) pension
4. Are you contracted out of S2P?
You could use the pay slip checker here...

Alternatively, if you google for "pay slip checker" there are other calculators on the web.0 -
Who ever deals with the wages at your workplace should be able to tell you more................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0

This should be:-
(salary/365)*28 which is £1227.39
and not:-
salary/365*28 which is £1.57 approx...............................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -

If I'd written salary/(365*28) then this would have given £1.57, but I didn't - so it doesn't.
Parenthesis is unnecessary in the example given.0 -
OK

It may also be out due to your employers paydate. Some that pay monthly pay on the 10th day of the month so they would pro rata your earning for the number of days you have worked in a pay period.
Speak to your payroll sections as they can make mistakes with new starters, usually due to duff informatin on start dates etc.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)
