I have been with my provider since 10/04.I have been paying as little as 31 pounds. That increased to 64 which i believed with the situation at the moment this was not so bad and would not break the bank.
I was sent a letter on 04/07 saying my payments were being increased to 293 pounds a month from the 28/07.
I am a single man living on my own,i spend most of my days at work or asleep.i cannot for the life of me work out where they have got this figure from.
i have spoken with my provider and they say the figures were based on a meter reading.I gave a reading while on the phone.Mine were 1 23185
2 28570.The reading they had was 33150 which even the person on the phone said was bigger than bills to 7/8 bed mansions.
sorry for rambling but im at my wits end.
any advice but be appreciated

When was your meter last read before you gave your reading today? Is it possible that the reading passed to your new supplier was incorrect in April?
Does your supplier charge you for gas and elec or just electric?
The bill is obviously wrong but we need to find out what is wrong with it. It could be the meter but i would be surprised as meters don't really go wrong very often....is it possible that you have had your meter changed and they are still billing you for the old meter with the new readings?
What electric appliances do you have? Have your bills only just increased since changing to your new supplier?
(Sorry...alot of questions)
By the way...what is your payment per month now they amended your account to your meter readings today?0 -
i just have electric.no gas.i have been with the same supplier since 04.i have had readings but not from the time they state.meter readers tend to come when i am at work and i am the first to admit i have been lax with providing readings to them by email and phone but i have done so.i was advised the meter is proably correct as they are as accuarte as black boxes on planes the provider stated.my main appliances are tv,pc emersion.i dont even have a cooker.i was advised by my provider that it could be down to an appliance being wrongly wired.i am a tenant and the landlord has done no checks since i move in here in 2004.
with the latest reading my provider said my outstanding balance would come down from 1799 to about 1200.thats still about 250 a month up from 640 -
Do you know when your last customer reading or inspectors reading was taken prior to the readings you supplied today?
It is possible that your bills have been under-estimated for a long time, but we need the last actual reading and date to ascertain this....If you don't have this info then ring your supplier and ask..is there a 0800 number you can ring them on?
I don't think your supplier has helped you at all...faulty wiring seems highly unlikely (but it can happen).0 -
Are you sure no one else is tapping into your electric supply? Other tenants, or even the landlord himself?
Turn off all your electrical goods and check to see if the electric meter still has a supply going through it“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
my provider is calling me tomorrow to calculate my exact rate from figures given last week and figures tomorrow.as i said i have been lax with readings but they have been given over the last four years.
will keep you informed and thanks0
