You need to decide a few things to start with. For example: do you need something small that you can put in your pocket, or is quality of photo more important than small size?
The answer to your question will differ greatly depending on which of those is the more important.0 -
thanks fwor
the quality of picture is more important0 -
Have a look at the reviews at: www.dpreview.com www.steves-digicams.com and www.cameralabs.com then for prices www.camerapricebuster.co.uk
This crops up every few days, so do a search on "camera" in this forum and you'll find many points of view and advice
Personally I'd stick to quality camera brands: Canon, Nikon, etc. £200 will get you a pretty good compact (i.e. non-SLR) camera today, don't worry about megapixels, that's the biggest marketing con, just concentrate on lens and image quality.0 -
Your price limit is just below Digital SLR territory, but there are plenty of good cameras at that price level.
One that gets extremely good reviews and has a Leica lens and superb zoom range is the Panasonic DMC-FZ18. Which? magazine held it in very high regard, as do TrustedReviews:
http://www.trustedreviews.com/digital-cameras/review/2007/08/21/Panasonic-Lumix-DMC-FZ18/p1
That review gives a price of around £250, but it's now down to around £200 (or less on Amazon).0 -
I've had a couple of dfiferent camera's the canon digial ixus range with image stabilisation if by far the best. Don;t worry about how many megapixels get one of these they are great:

or

I've just bought a Sony T300 and think it's brilliant. Nice and compact, easy to use and great pictures. £202
Google it and see what you think.0 -
hi i spent over 2 months researching my camera (lol yes im a saddo)
i bought the casio ex-z1080 last week for £105 from jessops, and a 4gb sdhc memory card from play.com for £7.99, plus a leather case for £5 from ebay
so basically £120 all in
and i have to say its an amzing camera, movie mode is unbeliveable for a normal camera and you can hook it up to your tv in seconds....
and the quality is just like a camcorder with good quality sound too!!
pictures are brilliant and its very easy to use....
check out the reviews on dpreview.com and trusted reviews

The Nikon D40 is a great entry level Digital SLR which is used by amateurs and pros alike.
Check this out, it is just over your budget but not by much.

I agree; save up for one of these. You won't regret it. The picture quality will far surpass any compact camera available.0 -
