Offer of new laptop

I posted here yesterday regarding problems with my Dell laptop - in particular, I could not get internet Explorer or Firefox to connect.

Dell wanted me to do a complete reinstall. However, after 2 attempts at restoring from my backup external drive, the problem is resolved.

The complaints team from Dell have been in touch. The laptop has had a few problems requiring: new motherboard, new heatsink, replacement screen, replacement power supply and this being the final straw. To cut a long story short, they have offered me a new laptop (same spec).

Do I go for it or will the installation of all of my data make this a pointless exercise?

Laptop is nearly a year old. I doubt I would be able to change the spec of the replacement at all.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Without question, take the new one, it will have a full guarantee starting from when you receive it too.

Good point but Dell have already extended the warranty by another year anyway.

Issue is, I am not sure I a) have the ability; b) have the trust; and c) have the time / bother to transfer all of the data on my current laptop.

You can pick up a large external drive for about £30 now and copy everything you want to keep onto that.

At least doing that now, you have a choice of what files you want to keep, if you keep the existing laptop with no files backed up then it sounds more than likely that one day soon you will have lost them all when this one finally gives up !

I've got an external drive and fortunately am pretty good at backing things up. Trouble is I can never find things again!!!

I just think it may be a case of better the devil you know!
