Moving loft access

Can anyone give me some advice? I live in a terraced house and the loft access currently is in a cupboard, which is not very helpful! What would it involve to move the access to the landing, and put in a loft ladder. Who would I contact for this? Should I speak to a loft ladder company or go to a local builder and buy the ladder myself. Any idea on what sort of cost I'd be looking at? Thanks in advance

I'm a joiner and i've done these from time to time,so may be worth asking joiners.General builders would probably do them as well.Don't know what loft companies charge but you need to buy a decent ladder,at least £100 + fitting and extra's(timber, screws etc).Probably looking round about £250.00ish.0

We just had a loft ladder installed by the Loft Shop and it cost a £130 for a decent enough metal 3piece ladder with hand rail and they reversed the loft hatch for us and did an excellent job... I guess to factor in moving it as well would work out at £200+#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I had my loft ladder done by the loftshop too - they're appealing because it's really clear from the outset exactly what you're stumping up to get it done. I think I paid £399 all in to have a top notch wooden ladder put in, which involved increasing the size of my hatch considerably. I was very happy with their service - I paid (I think) £30 for them to come and survey and check what i wanted was feasible, which I got refunded on the cost of the installation.0
