Can I prevent employer communicating with me at home.

Can people suggest I prevent my employer from sending 'propaganda' and company litereature to me at my home address while I am off duty? I have asked them to stop, but they just say 'We have 3500 employees, we can't pick annd choose who we send stuff to'! I could understand it if I didn't work in one location, or worked from home etc. But I object to them sending stuff to my home address while I am off duty!

Even sending stuff back, return to sender doesn't work. I send A4 stuff back with no stamp so they have to pay postage and a fine, but that doesn't work. Surely, if any other company you deal with you can tick a box not to receive anything, an employer should be the same? I even claim overtime for opening the stuff and walking to the postbox to send it back!

What do others think/suggest?

If you have asked them to stop sending you unwanted junk and propaganda and they continue to do so whilst giving you a lame excuse, I think that this could be classed as harrassment.

I would have thought that as they are doing a bulk mailshot that it wouldn't be too difficult to remove your details from the list.

I think you shouldn't bother opening them and if that is the most distressing thing you have to worry about in life-you are blessed !

EDIT Ohhhhhh just realised you're the same poster upset because you were given provisional dates for a training course and didn't want to leave your 14 year old to do a one day local course.
Ignore the above advice-you're just looking for reasons to fall out with your employer. You're a poor role model both to other single parents and to your son with this silliness............or you're a troll

There is probably more to the story than this.

If your employer is not particularly nice to you, you want to go home and be able to forget at least for a few hours that you work for such an awful company.

I work for a local authority and get such stuff with my payslip. It just goes in the recycle bin without being read. Why not do the same and stop the stress?

Or why not suggest that they put such info onto a staff intranet, where it is available to read by choice, but is "greener" and is not costing them money for printing & postage? You never know, they might respond better to that suggestion than one of "leave me alone when I am not in work".

Honestly - it wasn't me! Just because we might share similar views about our employers, doesn't mean we're the same person!

Maybe. I suppose I am sitting here using the internet in their time, so maybe there should be a bit of give and take!

I can only see it being a problem if you start getting phone calls at home.

My mobile number accidentally got out at work, and I kept getting bothered with calls at weekends and holidays, as they couldn't get me on the office phone. When I explained that this was my private mobile, and I am off, they just ignored it and carried on with the request. A few times I've put the phone down on work colleagues, until in the end I had the number changed.

But getting post at home, and calling it propoganda is really just 'bear baiting' and trying to find an excuse to fall out with your employer; Then I suppose you'll be on these boards whinging that you got fired and you don't know why...
