Hello nodwah, the date syrup and yoghurt sounds delicious, now to just get the yoghurt to work:D0

hi
i've just had my first attempt at using the Easiyo this morning
i put it on at 8am, and when i've just checked it now (4.30pm) its still really runny.Does anyone know why?
i used a litre of UHT milk, 3tbsp dried milk and a pot of Yeo valley live yoghurt
I've left the flask in the Easiyo, i'm hoping it'll thicken up a bit more, but is this normal? or where did i go wrong?0 -
Hi Mandy_moo_1, I am still having the same problem as you, I made some yoghurt yesterday(well it was still milk:mad:), I used exactly the same ingredients and method as you and left it for about 7 hours and it was just yoghurty smelling milk. It is so disappointing lots of people seem to have great success. I keep trying though - Good luck to you:D0

this might sound daft but is it the weather?!!!
I make yoghurt using an Easiyo flask with 1 carton UHT milk, 2 tblsp dried milk powder and 1-2 tblsp starter yog. In cold weather I never have a problem and get dare I say perfect yoghurt (I tend to pour off the liquidy bit on the top) but as soon as the weather warms up to summer temperatures... I cannot get a decent batch
have promised my lads I will get some going today but I am not hopeful.....
sorry... not a very useful post but maybe a theory as to why??0 -
As I said above, I use a flask and have no experience of an Easyyo but I wonder if temperature is an issue here?
Are you using milk straight from the fridge? Someone above said they use room temp milk to start with, this may be better for you. If the milk is too cold to start with the Easy yo won't bring it up to the correct yoghurt breeding temperature (to cause the yoghurt-making bacteria to multiply) and you'll just get smelly tepid milk.
Have you tried warming the Easy yo inner bit first with a swirl of boiling water from the kettle, again so it isn't too cold to start with.
Dont use ordinary milk, use UHT, ordinary milk has bacteria which will breed in the warmth and cause the milk/yoghurt to spoil.
HTH and good luck. Its so frustrating when things don't turn out right!0 -
thanx for that idea,saving-grace
i HAVE been using UHT milk straight out of the fridge, so maybe that's where i've been going wrong
the batch i made yesterday, i strained it thru some muslin to make it thicker, which worked, but it looked a bit ''curdy'' IYKWIM. Not much, but just teeny bits of curd...anyone know what causes that?0 -
Have you tried putting it in the fridge for a couple of hours after you have taken it out of the easiyo?
Mine sometimes looks a bit runny when I first take it out of the easiyo but thickens up a bit after being in the fridge. I think if it's too warm it's still bit runny.
I don't use UHT from the fridge either, no point keeping it in there it won't go off until opened and I use almost a whole one in each easiyo.
I've not had one curdle yet and I've been making them for a while. Oh and my UHT yoghurt is a little runnier than the easiyo packaging.0 -
We buy a live yoghurt ( Read the carton details to make sure it contains LIVE CULTURES.) and freeze it in an ice cube tray.
Doesn't freezing the yoghurt kill the live cultures then? I guess it can't do, if it works....I've been reading this thread with interest as I'm thinking of getting an Easiyo.0 -

Do you just warm the flask up with hot water first?0
