I have had my laptop for over 4 years now and it has recently began to run quite slow. I have run all the usual cleaners etc and have been advised to re install windows to start afresh.I do have the windows xp recovery disk.
SO, TECHIE GUYS can somebody help me with all this. I have made a copy of the drivers and copied all my fotos, files etc that i need.
I know i should reboot with the windows disc in...(i think) but I am a little scared that I'll do something wrong and i won't be able to access the internet with which i really need as its my only contact to find out the well being of a sick relative overseas
All help given to an aged hopeless female would be appreciated
thanks

Shouldn't be a problem, though if your laptop connects to your broadband connection via USB or wireless then you may need to find the setup CD that your ISP supplied.
You'll also obviously need your Windows licence key.
Don't forget to turn on the Windows firewall, enable Windows Update and download all available patches, and add one of the free antivirus progs before you start using it in anger.
You might also consider using Firefox + the Noscript extension instead of IE for really safe surfing...0 -

Who advised you to re-install windows and why ? A PC running slow could be caused by many things and not necessarily be a Windows problem. You may need extra memory. What are the symptoms ? A brief summary of the PC configuration and programmes running would help.0
