I have search on google how to do this but it all seems so complicated

I just bought a pc on ebay it said operating system so me being a dummy just assumed windows well its not its linux the pc is for my daughter for mainly for school work a bit of internet and for playing football manager I know she is a teenage girl but into football :D anyhow football manager will not install on Linux and I dont think I will be able to get microsoft office on either.
so if possible in dummy terms how can I take linux off and put on windows preferably step by step with no jargon I am not totally inacapable of following instructions but most I look at are aimed at people who know all the jargon ect
I have read somewhere I need a boot floppy I dont have one  how would I get one?

Put your windows disk in the drive, turn off computer, restart, follow instructions on screen

    this might be easier:

maybe you can get her in to linux too :) ms office will run in a similar way (via emulation) but openoffice.org is a much better idea, it's very similar and compatible with almost all MS documents.

Is it really that simple :o I read that Linux takes up too much space, something to do with the partitions and you cannot put windows on after linux but you can put linux on after windows meaning windows has to be the 1st operating system IYNWIM

Not true. Linux and Windows use differently formatted hard drives (or sections of the hard drive). If you don't mind wiping the computer completely, wipe it, re-format the hard drive to Windows format and install Windows.

If you don't care about losing a little bit of your hard drive, you can simply format an unused part of it for Windows.

The windows after linux bit is if you put both on as dual boot because windows will overwrite the linux boot information , something like that anyway.
you just want to write a whole new replacement OS so it should be easy peasy:)
the windows disc will give you the option to format first.
In Bios, make sure boot from CD is selected for 1st boot device.
Installing windows is as stated ,just following the screen prompts then once it has gathered all its files and stuff and rebooted it brings up press any key to boot from cd.... and you just leave it alone and it installs everything.
You will need to watch as it does it ,so you can type in your product key and choose the right keyboard and area of the world etc.(Well you do in XP, I haven't installed a 'Vista' version yet)

i take it you have a windows disk and serial number?

If so, and you are quite happy to wipe everything and start again, it is as easy as insert windows cd, shut down pc and restart with the cd in the drive (you may need to set your BIOS to boot from CD http://www.hiren.info/pages/bios-boot-cdrom)

Follow the on screen insructions and be patient, it can take a while.

Its a shame you want to remove linux as it has a lot to offer.
However windows will not recognise the linux partitions correctly so it will just overwrite them when you format the harddrive during the installation of windows.

Oh and don't forget that depending on the version of windows you have, the age of the pc and whether you've been given driver disks you may spend quite a while playing "hunt the windows driver".

I assume you have a valid licence for Windows too?

Normally when Windows is supplied with a PC by a major manufacturer you pay for it but get it at a substantial discount. Retail copies of Windows are quite pricey... and other copies are most likely illegal to install on a PC that's never had Windows.
