Do shower screens actually work?

It sounds a silly question, but when i have used them on holiday, half the bathroom floor was covered in water,so is it to do with the angle of the shower head? e.g does the head need to directly above you,so it won't splash past you....if that makes sense?
We intend to remodel the bathroom next year, and obviously the shower curtain has to go for asthetics, but it does the job.
Any thoughts.

This has happened to me too. I used the shower (with screen) in a hotel room and water went through the bathroom floor and into the restaurant below.
We have overkill (not bothered about aesthetics) in our home because we have both a shower screen and a shower curtain. We don't want a damp bathroom floor.;)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the 'I wanna' and 'In my home' and Health & Beauty'' boards. If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. we have just had our bathroom done and have a curved screen as we a shower bath. I don't get much water on the floor but I think my brother goes swimming on the bathroom floor or something.
If you do by a screen, make sure you buy the second screen they normally offer.0 -
Heres what I got. I saw it for £300 more in the shops and in a mag by some company called claygate.

Also when you get your old bath out, water seal the floor with ply and bunch of other water tight stuff (my plumber shorted out). My bathroom floor is now about 2cm's higher but is apparntly completlywater tight.0 -
As a plumber I hate fitting shower screen cos like you say they leak sometimes. It depends on the shape of the bath, those with `lumpy` curves make the seal impossible to sit . Also if you buy a screen for £30 from a DIY shed you get what you pay for .
Decent quality screen with a flat type bath and you should be ok. (+ fitted well)On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.0 -
We have a victorian conversion flat, which means the floors and walls are very uneven, when we bought a shower screen it was impossible to fit as the walls and bath edge were not even close to a 90 degree angle.
I guess this could be why some leak and some don't. We took it back and got a shower curtain instead.Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0
