Did Argos strike?

  • very true, although we are using the strike as a final option. We have had many meetings with the MD's and have not gained anything from it. One thing I may say, they act like children.

this is silly most ppl are lucky to get a 4% payrise and lucky to earn £22,000 or at least where i live they are. Bloody silly. ranting on how they struggle to pay everday costs as if the rest of us dont too
Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.
  • In reference to the above post, I work at Argos and I can assure you last year I earned considerably less than £22,000. This strike must also be judged in the context that the CEO a Mr Terry Duddy was recently given a 58% pay rise, the company has made record profits this year with sales up 16%, and trying to force the staff into monthly pay instead of weekly without any compensatory pay for the changes to the T&C's of contracts.

    Don't shop for it , Argoshit !!!
  • i agree with you and well done for taking it this far

i recently left argos mainy because of how fed up i was with being told that you can only do *this, this + this* for your customers but as soon as they kick off you are 100% undermined and made to look a right unhelpful idiot by your team leaders/managers

but the other big factor was changing to monthly pay - there was no help from argos (well you got a letter saying you can go to CAB if you need advice i think) but the majority of store staff work almost every day on very short shifts for MINIMUM WAGE. so we were expected to last a whole month on one weeks pay!!! about £70 quid (most of the staff at our store are employed 5 days for 3 hour shifts so you dont have to have breaks i expect)
its disgusting and the least they could off done is give half a months pay or something to help us tide over

i hope you are succesful as i worked my backside off there for years on MINIMUM WAGE to be worked like a dog in the hottest and coldest climates with no thanks

Hi i deliver for argos and when we were forced over to monthly pay we were given an advance which was then payed back over about eight months i think. It is a very unfair if they are just making u changeover with no help.

Did the strike go well, are there anymore planned?
  • Just another dig for the almighty Argos. As you all may know the new 2009 catalogue just launched on the 19th of January. Well, stores started returning the new cats a couple of days after, saying they were faulty! Hollman printed catalogues have a fault - they fall apart!! All you have to do is open them half way through and you hear a "pop". The binding glue fails. We are the largest customer for Hollman Printers. Dont think we will be using them next year! Or should I say this year, next cat launch in July. Thought you all might like a laff.

    Thanks :rotfl:

i dont see whats so funny - 100's of thousands of catalogues printed and binned, dozens of extra deliveries, customers peeved, staff annoyed and a printer that may loose their largest account and go out of business causing redundancies and staff to lose their homes all down to a faulty glue/bind/machine/QA?

And, !!!!!! has it go to do with strikes?
