Strawberries and Cream stall - advice please!

Hello

I am helping my husband to organise different fundraising events for the RNLI as he is running the New York marathon for them. So far we have done raffles, tombolas, games and an auction.

We have been offered a stall doing Strawberries and Cream at a fairly large event coming up in a few weeks and need some advice from people in the know, please!

1) How much to charge for a portion?
2) Storage - necessary equipment on a basic level?
3) Any more advice?

We are in Cornwall so clotted cream isn't a problem wholesale and there are loads of pick your own places so ingredients aren't an issue, it's just the logistics really.

Many thanks for any advice
Morwenna

    Hi Morwenna

We did this at school fete. Then 'upgraded' next year to a chocolate fountain (hired) with a choice of 3 items on a skewer such as strawbs, marshmallows, doughnut bits etc. We sold loads more than the previous year!

Maybe a possible idea? Best of luck!

Hiya! Firstly, don't quote me on this, but you may have some health and safety trouble. I know a school fair where they got told they could sell cakes, but anything with fresh cream was a no no. I think if youdo want to serve it it has to be straight from the fridge. Again, don't quote but would be worth checking out!
Sounds like a great idea though and i'd pay £3 ish!

The only thing I'd add to the above is to question whether you've ever picked your own on a large scale before ...

I remember the boss thinking it would be nice to serve strawberries at a departmental event, and also thinking it would be nice to send the secretaries off to pick them, out in the fresh air etc.

And it was, in some ways, but these strawberries were growing on the ground, which was a long way down for me. Or maybe standing was a long way up after too long picking strawberries ...

Also took longer than we expected, which wasn't because we were eating them all!

So, go somewhere they grow them at waist height ...

Check the weather! I used to work in catering for a large heritage organisation and we had a very large event arranged at the house where I worked. It was summer and the bosses decided that strawberries and cream would be a big seller ... so off we trotted to the market to buy a PALLET load of of strawberries, which is, as you can imagine, an awful lot of strawberries :) Unfortunately the day of the event turned out to be one of the wettest on record and we sold hardly any of the berries. We had to stick them all in the freezer and we were using up the damn things for months lol :)
