what's is like towing a caravan?
I got my licesnse in '91, and drive a 1.6 automatic kangoo and wondering about getting a 2nd hand caravan ( + awning etc) for short trips into Derbyshire, anbd also use extra space for guests when it's parked in our back yard.
the family are keen to get a big caravan, but I'm thinking about towing it, also our drive is8ft 8ins wide, and on an incline.
I've never owned a caravan so any tips and info very welcome. I'm reading through the advice at http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/Practical+advice/New+to+caravanning/New+to+caravanning.htm
We don't get away much as it's get so complicated ( I am wheelchair user), and everything has to be planned, prebooked etc etc. usually all at extra cost. then you can't take dogs to msot disabled accomodation.
I'm planning to get a hoist fitted in the boot to lift a mobility scooter in, so that's extra weight as well.

All I'll say is to go do a course or you'll end up as yet another useless clown who takes up two HGV parking bays in the motorway services because you can't reverse.0

Yes - we know, but we just need to smile now and again in this seirous life that we lead...it was a serious query, I didn't realise this was a joke forum.
I do not know much about towing - but I know that my boss got a caravan - a Free.. something or other, he had a RAV 4, wasn't happy with that and finds a Land Cruiser much better and stronger.
I do think that you ought to try for the caravan club - i have heard that they are very good and helpful.
Blue-kat - feel free to come back at any time on any thread and get your own back
I apologise if I was disrespectful - but life gets us down and we let rip now and again to lighten the mood - sorry

Could you not borrow a bigger car to tow the van? As the little 1.4 Jazz with a hoist, mobility scooter, luggage, people and a van on the back might not make it a safe journey. Plus you will annoy Conor...0
