Need a new scanner...

I have about 820 theatre and concert programmes which I don't have space for, and the number is ever-increasing! I've come to the conclusion that I need to scan them all into electronic format and then throw out (or preferably flog on ebay) all that aren't autographed or otherwise of sentimental value!

So I need a flatbed scanner and am looking for recommendations! Maximum budget is about £130. I would prefer one which comes with (or is compatible with) free PDF-ing software as I'd prefer to store the programmes as PDFs and can't afford Adobe!

All suggestions gratefully received.

I have a Canon Lide 20 (only about £30 ) and that does what you ask for in PDF Files.
Their Lide 500 does it in spades and costs less that your maximum so should be ideal.
The best price seems to be Pixmania at less than 110 (incl p & p).
I really can recommend the Canon Lide range as being neat and simple to use as well as producing excellent effects. http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/s_action/search/index.html
This is a good place to look for (as new) reconditioned Canon scanners.

Thanks - funnily enough I'd browsed a few websites already and the LIDE 500 was emerging as the winning candidate!

I'll see what I can do about ordering one!

Mine is a CanoScan Lide 35, bought in February. Cost £60, but it really is fantastic, with usb cable taking power from the computer so I have one less plug to clutter my wall.

The photo quality is amazing. It stores pictures in .opd by default, but of course you can change it to .jpg or several other formats.

    :)
