is there a way of resetting the sky+ box without losing the data on the hard drive?, it has frozen, will not let us change channels, have tried turning off and on at the mains, but then i cant turn the box on, i know about holding in a certain button when u switch it on, but i have done that before and lost all the programs i had recorded, and dont want to do that this time if it can be avoided, the sky + box is a thompson if that makes any difference, TIA Dave

My sky+ boxes don't loose their data. All I do is turn my box off at the mains, leave it for 5 minutes then turn it back on. After turning it back on wait another 5 minutes while the box synchronises itself and settles, then just try turning it on normally. Works on both my boxes (Amstrad and Pace).0

sky+ works on a hard disk drive, much like a computer.
when you turn a computer off, windows is retained as is all your software and data, photos, music etc.
when you reboot or turn off a sky+ box, the programmes stored on it, are exactly like your photos / music on a computer.
If your sky+ box is recording when you reboot, you will lose that program, but nothing else.
as the previous poster said, wait 5 mins, plug back in, and wait 5 mins..
try using the buttons on the front of the box, to change channels, go into tv guide, and if that works, it might be a problem with your remote control!

i have left it switched off at the mains for 12 hours, just turned it on again, left it for 15 minutes, again nothing, red light stays on if i use the buttons on the box, or the remote
EDIT: thanks for replies, it has just turned itself on, and all seems well :TTake every day as it comes!!0
