Fuel surcharge on holiday booked a year ago

We booked our holiday to Turkey last August and paid it off last December. We are going for two weeks in 4 weeks time. My mum and dad are taking my daughter to the same hotel on Sunday for a week, they booked in January. About 2 months ago they got a letter saying that due to fuel increases they had to pay another £36 for the three of them. We didn't receive anything so assumed we were getting away with it as we had booked it so early. Today I received a letter and they are charging us an extra £90. I don't understand why there is such a big difference in what we are being charged. I know we are going for an extra week but we are only going to be on the plane twice, the same as them. Why have they left it so late to tell us if they knew about it a couple of months ago. I told them I couldn't afford it and asked if I could cancel it but she said I would lose 90% of my money. Is there anything I can do? Why has the price nearly trebled in the two weeks between mum, dad and DD going and us going?

how did or who did you book this holiday through?
you need to check the booking conditions you agreed to at the time of booking0 -
I booked it with Scottravel online. I've heard rumours that the company haswent into receivership and someone else has bought it but this isn't confirmed yet.:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0

is the provider of the flights custom flights or goldtrail?
it doesnt matter when you booked it is about when you travel. Goldtrail issued a surcharge on the 22nd may i think it was, abta said anyone travelling within the month would not have to pay it but anyone travelling later than say 22nd june would....doesnt matter if they booked the week before etc or 6 mths before, so chances are it is something like that.0
