Currys - Don't want to know about wrongly described tv....

Last November I purchased a tv from my local Currys after checking the specifications of the tv on the Currys website. The tv was not unpacked and installed until recently as we were having building work done on our house. I then discovered that the tv has only one scart socket, and not two sockets as was stated in the specifications on the Currys website (I do have a print-off of this). I have written to Currys to complain about this, because I honestly wouldn't have purchased the tv if I had known it only had one scart socket (the website has now been updated and specifies one scart socket). I received a reply from Currys this morning, basically saying 'tough luck, it's too late to do anything about it'.

Does anyone know if I have any rights here? I'm more than a little peeved about spending £500 on a tv that wasn't as advertised.

scoff :)

I think that in this case too much time has passed to be able to do anything. It would be the same if you'd unpacked the product and discovered it was damaged in some way - you can't turn around now and say you don't want it.

It is your responsibility to check the product upon receipt. Whilst you can try to complain about the product description, it isn't grounds to try and get a refund. I'm sure you'd have had more of a chance of a refund had you checked it when you received it.

For what it's worth, you can get something from places such as Argos, like THIS, that are a workaround. I am using this product as an example, have never tried it myself, and am not an Argos employee (I hope this is within site rules).

    See this useful factsheet: http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/facts/salegoodsact.htm

It says you can get your money back "within a reasonable time" in such cases as yours. I doubt if anyone will consider 11 months to be anything like reasonable in the case of electrical goods like TVs which tend to change in models/prices at a fast pace. Sorry, but I think Curry's are within their rights on this one.
Eh?? I give up!! Towel is getting thrown in here! :D
