Hi,
Any advice please? On my DD's return from a school trip to France, I bundled all of her laundry in the washing machine - and then we realised her iPod shuffle was in her jeans pocket!
We took the iPod out and it has been languishing in the airing cupboard for two days - tried connecting it to our mac desktop and it came up with "iTunes does not recognise this iPod", we did the master reset after downloading the factory re-settings from the Apple website and it came up with "error".....
Any ideas as to what we can do next?
Can't afford to buy a replacement and DD's devastated!!
Many thanks in advance!

You could try Apple if it's still in warranty. If not, a new 1GB Shuffle will be about £30 from Amazon. I'm sure you can get them on eBay even cheaper than that.0

if you have time on your hands, get some deionized water from a auto store and wash the ipod again in a bowl, to get all the soap out.
Soap is corrosive and deionized water is safe as its non conductive.
then leave te ipod to dry out in the airing cupboard for three or four days (try to shake as much water out as you can before hand)
the try to connect it again, if it helps I have washed my memory key by mistake and it came back to life, it lived in the washing machine door seal for about a month before I found it!To alcohol! The cause of... and solution to... all of life's problems!:beer:0 -
It's flash based, (no hard disc,) which is good news. It should work if it dries out eventually.
I don't know if they can be opened at all, but if so, take as much casing off it as possible and leave it in the airing cupboard wrapped in paper towel for another two weeks. (I wouldn't go forcing any casing off, 'cause it'll probably break, but at this point, [if it's out of warranty,] you have nothing to lose.) Don't plug it in in the meantime, because if there is still water in it, you could cause a short and damage bits of it permanently if power is applied.
I'd recommend searching these forums for "tea" and "laptop" for some good general advice on salvaging water damaged electronics!
edit: ...what Dave said.
I also went swimming with all my clothes on in a river while my motorola phone was in my pocket, submerged for a good 5-10 minutes. It worked again after two days of drying. There is hope!Russia is HERE0 -
That's great! I work in a lab so have de-ionized literally on tap! I will definately give it a go - there's nothing to lose now!
I never even thought about the corrosiveness of the soap powder (it's not a very good lab I work in!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: )
I will let you know if it works.... thanks!!0 -

I've also heard that 100% ethanol (NOT an azeotropic solution!) is pretty effective for drying out water-damaged electronics, but it's pricey and I wouldn't try it on anything with an LCD or display. But if your desperate, and have access, by all means have a go at compete submergence. Prob. best to stick with the deionised water and complete dry-out plan first.
Also been used (by friends,): isopropyl alcohol.Russia is HERE0 -
