Hotel help - Silver Wedding

Well it was supposed to be the Maldives but domestic circumstances have ruined that :(

So, we need to stay local - one night only.

I know which hotel we want, in fact it is in our own town ... and the date is next week.

But ... it's too expensive. I've tried Hotels Comparison without any luck, Late rooms, Last minute etc.

Any other ideas?

I was thinking Priceline but have never used it.

Have you tried just going into the hotel & asking for their best price - be a little 'economical' with the truth about prices you have had for similar hotels in the area, it may encourage them to be more competitive.

Priceline is fab, and if you look on BetterBidding you can find out if your hotel is likely to be offered.

If you want to tell us where you are looking at (don't worry, we won't all turn up ... honest! ;) ), or if not, the town/ city, we can have a look at which hotels are available there?

When I want to book hotel rooms in the UK I use a website called activehotels.com - you book through them with the hotel and get the room discount listed on the site.

    Could you fib a little?

Ring them (or go in) and tell them it's your Silver Wedding Anniversary. Then tell them that your daughter has just got engaged, you're local, and are looking for somewhere fabulous to put up your extended family in the winter (for the wedding)?

Bit naughty, but it might work!

That looks gorgeous (and just what I am looking for this week, but a bit too far)!

Priceline have got it listed on their normal listings at £175 for next week, so slightly cheaper than directly with the hotel. However, the Name Your Own Price page only lets you narrow your choice to Cardiff North or City Centre, and it isn't a hotel that has been won before - so I wouldn't take the chance?

I know a few people that have got pretty fab rates by contacting hotels directly (especially if you can leave it as late as poss). The best was one who got a double room in Nottingham for £40 when the advertised rate for over £100, so certainly worth asking! x

Priceline will be of no help I'm afraid.

They have Cardiff as a zone but you could get ANY 4* hotel there.

Might be the time to bite the bullet and pay. How many Silver weddings do you have :D
