No I disagree with this, in the past ive had a policy with norwich union.
Just wanted to point out that other policies may be different to yours, so you can't extrapolate.0 -
Im very surprised at this as its normal practice to check all parties when called to an accident-Insurance /Mot is on a database so they should have checked this and found out that the vehicle was uninsured. Lucky for you they didnt follow normal practise. The police asked me for my licence at the scene of the accident which l produced. They did not ask for any other documents.0 -

None of us know that they didn't follow normal practice - perhaps they did - and perhaps the recording of the currency of an insurance is not instantaneous - nor even with a 48 hour period.
The essential aspect remains however, at the time of the accident, insurance as required by law was in force. If many little people, in many little places, do many little things,
they can change the face of the world.

Hi I am a Motor Insurance Underwriter.
With our policies DOC means exactly that, driving other cars and does NOT extend to cover motor bikes, vans, pick ups etc. Does what it says on the tin.
Alot of people are getting their friends, using their DOC, to retrieve cars that have been impounded for no insurance. Alot of companies have cottoned onto this and are putting exclusions into their policies.0 -
Thank you all for your contributions. My sister's car is still with the repairer appointed by my own insurance company. She has the replacement car and my insurance company has not yet called again as they said they would to get her insurance details. Fingers crossed everything is alright.
I'm sure the first thing Kwik-fit (my insurance company) would have done was to check all the details before they accepted the claim and arranged the repair of the car. I still hope and pray they won't ask me to pay the bill at the end of it all.0 -
She has the replacement car
I presume you have checked that she is insured to drive the replacement?
We recently got a hire car as I hit my husbands car and he claimed off me.
I did check that we were BOTH insured to drive the hire car (as we would have been on his).
If you haven't checked this you definitely should.0 -
Thank you Lisyloo, we will definitely check with the hire company as nothing was said about the insurance. Her current insurance, however covers her to drive "other Vehicles", but not sure wether the hire car is one of them.0
