What a joke mbna are.
Just tried to clear balance of account on the phone due to all other avenues being closed (don't ask) they have facility to take minimum payment but no more, or roughly translated want to keep charging me interest and keep making money out of me, by making it as awkward as possible for me to pay, and get this they keep charging me interest while it clearing! how cheeky is that?
So, When i asked them if i had a minimum balance of the amount I wanted to pay could they take it they said, "yes".
"so it isn't a floor limit problem then?"
"So why can't I pay that amount?"
"Can i speak to a manager?"
"no, they are in a meeting" lmao
just goes to prove that they don't like people paying their balances off in full! who can I complain to and is it worth it?
thanks

I would send the rest of the payment by post using a cheque.
Alternatively see if you can pay over the counter at your bank and pay the hit on the charges.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

did you get a statement? why cant you walk into a bank with statement and pay the FULL amount in notes? thats what i do every month less min. (min.DD set up :j )0 -
looks like you hit the " only 2 debit card payments per 30 day period " rule. Thats prolly why they wont take your payment over the phone. Do a Bacs transfer via your bank account, mbna account number and sort code are on the back of the statement, use your full card number as a payment reference number.0

I have a DD set up with MBNA each month which asks for the FULL outstanding balance. You need to ask for this option !0

MBNA are not a joke, YOU are. You've managed to get yourself into a situation where "all other avenues" are closed to you...how or why that happened does not matter, the fact is MBNA is a Credit Card Bank, not a high street clearing bank. Their business is not to take payments from customers to clear their balance. Unlike a clearing bank, which takes your payment and then processes it for you, MBNA would have to send the payment to another bank to clear it, hence they can't be liable for the time it takes for your payment to clear. YOU are responsible for making the payments on time, not MBNA.
MBNA takes the minimum payment over the phone, if a) you are already in arrears or have missed a payment, b) you are very close to your payment due date and a debit card payment over the phone is the only way to ensure the minimum payment is not late.
Many of us gripe about how long it takes to get through to MBNA on the phone. I think I know why - there are too many customers hogging the phone line wanting to pay off their balance in full, and the reps have to go through their all-too-familiar spiel explaining the reasons why they can't take a full payment!! Meanwhile, the rest of us are kept waiting in the queue for longer and longer. Imagine if everyone tried to pay their balance in full over the phone! You'd be queueing on the phone forever!0 -
I had a balance to pay of £3,975.50. Went on the internet and paid online. Very straight forward and simple.0
