Whats your postcode, or the first 3 letters of it.
If you put it in here it will give you an idea of what to expect.

The field strength is the important figure, mine is 50 and I get all the freeview channel
on a loft aerial, I also have a booster in the loft but I can almost manage without one.
I would not get a picture on an indoor aerial though.
My aerial only cost £12, I can see houses with more expensive outdoor aerials they
don't really need.
Anyway if you give the first 3 letters of post code I will have an idea of what you need.
There tends to be a fine line between all or nothing with digital
First part of the postcode is YO31. I've tried that and it says to use an amplified extra high-gain antenna and that the field stength is 32/36. I think. If anybody wants to translate this into English I would be much obliged.:D
Just in case it's relevant the aerial I've got is this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/One-All-SV9365-Amplified-Aluminium/dp/B000NW3PSO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1215519851&sr=1-2#moreAboutThisProduct0 -

Basically due to the distance that you are from your local transmitter, you need a proper aerial and not a set top type. A cheap £10 aerial from Wilko or B&Q in the loft is likely to work fine. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Might be worth contacting the landlord and asking if he would take the £10 or so for the aerial of your rent if you leave it behind, if he's easy going he may say yes!0

If you do not feel up to doing it yourself, look in your local paper for a TV aerial fitter, ask him for advice on what aerial is need for your location and get a quote from him, also have a look at other houses near you and see what aerials they appear to have, then talk to your landlord to see if he will pay or contribute to getting one fitted.0

Though beware of cowboy aerial fitters there are many out there. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0

How can you tell if the aerial fitter is a cowboy?
What questions do you need to ask or what qualifications should they have? That's Numberwang!0 -

Usually quote a ridiculous price and often say "You require a 'digital' aerial".It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... That's what dads are for!
He's actually suggesting just plugging the tv in in case there already is an aerial in the loft that we don't know about but if all else fails he'll be the one going into the loft/onto the roof to get this sorted. 0
