Confused over photoshop

Options
Okay so I wanna get myself a copy of photoshop to edit my photos for both personal and business use, however im really confused over what software to buy. I had a look on pricerunner (which made me even more confused) and the pcworld web site (hopeless), found this on amazon uk http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00097EBFO/qid=1129239299/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_11_2/202-9322746-1499023 Is that what im looking for?
I have been told that some printers get a freebee copy with the basic stuff, not really what I want but it could do while I get use to the program.
I remember when this was just a little website! :money:

  • Yeah, that is the latest copy of photoshop... its also part of adobe's creative suite 2 hence the CS2. Also known as Photoshop version 9...

The freebie which comes with printers is probably photoshop elements, which is a cut-down version of the full photoshop. Elements is enough for the vast majority of people, unless you really need the power of photoshops advanced features do you really wanna spend over £400?

And even then you are perhaps better off buying an old version of full photshop really cheap, then purchasing a CS2 upgrade...

Its not usually the "done" thing just going out and buying it on its own. Such expensive software, in the case of adobe, is almost offset by bundling it with creative suite (illustrator, indesign, acrobat, golive)... and you wouldn't be getting value for money by getting it on its own.

Agree with Mr Skint here.......Paint Shop Pro has been doing what adobe does for years but at a fraction of the cost :)

For the advanced users (who also like it free) try THE GIMP:

    Hope this is useful.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

If your heart is set on Photoshop or Elements 2/3/4 for you own use take a look at ebay.
  • Paint Shop Pro is now at version 10 (or X). From what I've seen of both programs (relatively little, I admit) the new user would get things done a lot faster with PSP. DYOR of course.

Photoshop is mainly for commercial or advanced use. It's not worth the cost unless you fully know how to use it. For editing photos and playing with graphics either go for:

Paint Shop Pro (as mentioned above). It £60 on Amazon for version 10 (or "X").

Or The Gimp. It's free. Might be worth trying it first.

Spending £500+ for Photoshop is excessive if you can't use it fully.
