from wma to mp3

Hi I have just bought a download single from Tesco as I wanted to put it on my mobile. The song downloaded to my pc then i sent it to my mobile and it sent ok but when I try to play it nothing is happening . I downloaded 2 songs and 1 plays fine but is in mp3 format however the one that wont play is in wma.I cant understand it not playing as I have other songs on my mobile in wma format and they play ok. Anyone have any ideas as to what my problem might be. Also does anyone know how i can change the frormat into mp3
Thanks in advance

I'm guessing you must have a tool installed which does this as I can't on my XP (Home) machine.

Does it play on your computer? If it does, you have 2 options. If it doesn't, contact the tesco music download store and you should be able to download it again for free.

The 2 options: The long way:
In Windows Media Player, find the song and add it to your library. Get a blank CD and burn this song onto the CD (You might as well burn a whole load as a compilation, if you are using normal CDs which can't be re-written) Make sure you burn it as an audio CD.

Now, put the CD you have just burned into your computer. In Media Player, click Tools, Options, and click the Rip Music tab. Under "Format" select "mp3". Now rip the track you are having trouble with onto your computer, edit the name and artist details, and it will be in MP3 format.

The short way: Download some free software to convert WMAs into MP3s. I don't know the name of any but google should help.
I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right

If the file is a protected WMA file (i.e it has DRM copy protection), you won't be able to directly convert it to mp3, and it is doubtful it will work on your mobile phone.

The WMA files from Tesco won't work on a Mac, so I'm pretty sure this means they are protected. You could burn it to an audio CD and rip it as an mp3, you you're going to lose some quality doing it that way.

Thanks for all your replies i have just noticed it is protected so i will try what you have suggested.
  • It can be difficult to convert different digital formats eg WAV to MP3 or WMA or OGG or whatever. One of the best FREE utilities I've found and use is MediaMonkey - you can pay for a version with bells and whistles, but the free version is excellent; I only use it for converting music files. It can be found here: http://www.mediamonkey.com/

    Hope that's helpful

I don't think that converts protected WMA files.
