Thread here.
I'm sure I've read that Martin does not take any profit from this site and these guys just seem to be trading in semantics.
Would someone with a lot more knowledge of this site pop over there and put the guys on the right path?
Cheers

ledge - being debated at Hot UK Deals Hi the sites finances are explained in detail in the about us section. The site is not driven by profit, but as i say there it does make revenue, and a substantial proportion of my income comes from it
Thepearce PM'd me about this. I said he could post this there - feel free to aswell
"To be honest I think you've misinterpreted the donation. First of all MSE is not the same as other sites, I cant simply add 'affiliate links' when i want as other sites do - as I will only link to best product and often they don't pay affiliate links. This means MSE makes far far less per person than other sites - though it does generate decent cash, allow me to employ 8 people, create non commerical comparisons and add money into my pocket
Read the copy about this offer thats linked to for more info. I specifically state that by doing this the new member gains as they learn about moneysaving, the site (me) gains as more members - and more money is given.
It is important you realise this donation is ON TOP of the sites normal charity fund. Since June I've managed to donate £23,000 to the sites charities which are voted for by the sites users. This is my personal pledge to take even more cash to help the disaster. All the money of course comes directly from what the site makes and thus forgoes going into my pocket.
The other reason I do it this way is because not everyone can afford to donate. By joining up people thus feel they are doing something - much like the logic behind www.thehungersite.com. There is nothing stopping people adding themselves to the free email and then coming off it a week later.
I think your scepticism is a little far. MSE is not a 'lets make as much as i can site' in fact i define it as 'non-profit driven' as making money is never allowed to interfere with what the site does (this is explained in detail in the about us) for me its a mission and helping people in need is part of that.
I can understand some scepticism, but i hope this puts your minds at rest
