ADT - poor alarm system and locked in 36 month contract ! Crazy!

hi,
i am a fool!!!
i signed up with ADT for their monitored alarm system that connects you to the police in the event of an alarm trip, about 9 months ago.
the contract is a crazy 36 months....
my issue is, the alarm system they put in is a wireless system, it is known for being tempramental, it gives false errors, and sends a fax noise down my phone line all the time, and if someone tries to call after i have put the phone down then it gives the fax machine noise to the caller.
the system is rubbish, when the engineer came to give the system its periodical check he said that they were aware of the problem and i had to live with it...!!!!
what ! for 3 years???
what can i do? i work from home and rely on my phone line for customer support, and i have this terrible ADT alarm, and am tied in on a 36 month contract !!
when i called, they said that i have to keep paying for the full term, which seems crazy for a terrible faulty product less than a year old.
is there a way i can cancel this contract or am i obliged for the full term?
your hel would be appreciated
chris

Call them again, and again, and again. In fact, put it in writing, and state that if they do not fix the problem to leave your phone line free and sort out the faults, they are in breach of their contract. Give them 28 days to fix the problems, otherwise the contract will be terminated. Send it by recorded delivery.
What does their contract actually say about the system?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I imagine it's the free alarm system in exchange for a 36 month contract that is popular with ADT.
I had this system installed in my house when I first moved in. When it was due for renewal I found a local company who provided monitoring cover for half the price. The system should not provide any line noise except when activated and it dials the ADT control centre. The man without a signature.0 -
They are in breach of the contract, so you would be entitled to ask them to either repair the system or release you from your obligations. As pinkshoes says, it would definitely be worth writing to them recorded delivery to state the problem and give them a time frame for sorting it out. If they don't, then contact consumer direct or CAB to see if they can help you work out your next plan of action, but you certainly shouldn't just put up with it!0
