Any Warmroof customers here?

Options
Hi everyone,

We're just about to take the plunge and get the Warmroof system installed in our home. I've known for some time that the roof needed significant work, ie replacement, and last week we got Warmroof in to see what they could do.

The surveyor came round and had a good look at our roof, he pointed several things out to me about it, none that I could disagree with and most I already knew, and brought something to my attention I hadn't noticed, namely that someone had stolen the complete run of lead from one of our valleys, approx £250 at scrap value.

So while he was there he gave us a quote to repair the existing roof, apparently it's repairable, and to fit a new flat roof over my daughters room, the only flat roof on the house. All the work has a 25 year guarantee and as a bonus, all the lofts will be boarded out for us. They reckon 2 days for the work to be completed.

A complete re-roof from a local builder would have cost around £15,000 (It's a large, complex roof) and warmroof have come back with less than £7,000 along with a 25 year guarantee backed up by the British Board of Agreement (BBA)

Anyone have experience of Warmroof as a customer? They've been around since the 70's so the company's nearly as old as me :rotfl:
Currently Underway:
PPI Reclaim: Black Horse: £1083 - Refund Agreed
Bank Charges Reclaims(On-Hold): Alliance & Leicester: £2527 ; Lloyds TSB: £270 ; Abbey: £1300

Just be warned, should you ever need to relace a slate\tile it will be impossible once they are locked into position. The outside of the slate\tile is untouched by the foam, and can break off.
  • I would seriously reconsider getting a spray foam coating (from any company) on the underside of the roof.
If the roof needs replacing then unfortunately that is what needs to be done. This is not an alternative - it may give an extra few years at most or may make things worse. It will cost more in the long term - cost of the foam now plus future inevitable replacement of the roof and extra work needed to remove the foam. I doubt the 25 year guarantee is actually much use.

I suggest reading some reports and reviews about the system, and get some quotes for a replacement roof or conventional repairs - it may not be as much as you expect.

Edit : Just noticed date of OP, hope it is not too late.

get the roof done proper, everytime.

and the 25 yr warranty means jack sh it unless its underwritten by an insurance company.
    Get some gorm.
  • I am a single lady pensioner and was contacted by Warmroof after I researched Warmfront online looking for a grant for loft insulation. I thought Warmroof was loft insulation and agreed to a visit from them. Their pressurised selling persuaded me to agree to placing an order over the phone before I had any more information about the product than was given to me by Warmroof. My research told me that spray foam insulation was NOT what I needed [my roof is in good repair - I need LOFT insulation to warm the house, not ROOF insulation to warm the loft!] so I wrote a cancellation letter within the 7-day cooling off period. The letter was sent first class post and would have been received by them within the 7 days. Warmroof are claiming that it was not and are refusing to refund my deposit. BE WARNED. Warmroof does not take 'no' for an answer and is not averse to bullying unsupported pensioners.
As to the product, my research told me that it's all down to the person who does the work, and there is precious little you can do if they don't do it properly!

despite some reservations foam inside has its ups and downs. one slight problem is that roof tiles (Slate as well as concrete) do become porous after 35-40 years (100+ for slate), Once you have added foam and I am taking it for granted you have no underfelt, thed moisture still coming through the tiles will rot the laths. You may consider coating the exterior too, thus sealing from both side and still within the budget. If you intend to stay in your house for 35-40 years more, get a new roof. Otherwise the general concensus within the general trade is about 50-50 +/- (Ex acme roof tiles general manager, so I do know.)

... in quite a short time too. I can see no reason why anyone would do this to their roof. If I was house-hunting and I saw that I'd know a new roof was needed - whether or not the roof was in a poor state before it was done.

  • My MIL aged 83 applied for a warmfront grant.

Her boiler is about 17 years old and went wrong last year and she was worried it would break down again.

Warmfront sent an inspector who agreed the boiler and other items needed replacing totalling approx £3500. She was told she needed to contribute about £1200 of the total.

I was wondering if anyone else has been asked to contribute.

I looked at what was on the quotation and there seemed to be a few items that I could have had done cheaper.

I am interested if you can just have the essentials done up to the maximium amount of grant so she does not have to make a contribution.

Warnfront is a boiler? Warmroof is a roof treatment.
