Electric Bill Problem - advice sought please

Hoping people on here can be of help with a problem my girlfriend has with Npower/BG.

She moved in to her rented flat in December 07. She was under the impression that the account was with Npower so called up with meter readings at this point. Nothing else was heard so in March she called Npower again, who had no recollection of the previous conversation, however they said they would sort it out and arrange a bill for June.

June came and passed with no bill, so I read the meter and send in the readings myself. A bill has now been received from npower but the meter readings from December are not correct (there readings are lower by chance) and a bill is now due on July 15th that is too high. We have now spoken to Npower who have stated that the readings were the ones received from BG and we need to speak to them.

Can anyone advise what the best course of action is?
What do we do about our bill due on July 15th?

Thanks
Dave

If she has moved from BG to Npower then yes you need to take the opening read that Npower have up with BG. (if there is an issue)

If Npower are saying the bill is due, not much you can do but pay it, and then once sorted your account will be in credit, or you can just wait, but watch out of extra debt charges Npower may add due to non payment.

It sounds like the property was in the process of switching to npower from BG when she moved in.
Either this happened before she moved in
    - in which case her account should start from her readings & her move in date. If not get it changed
Or it happened after she moved in
    - the bill will start a few days after she moved in, and the readings may be different. Npower can initiate a change to these readings if you provide them with accurate readings. (In these situations either supplier can start a dispute of the change readings. Technically it is the new suppliers responsibility to get the reads in the first place.)

Check the start date on the bill and comapre it to the move in date.
Call npower and get them to adjust the reading if it is a move in read, or initiate the process if it is a switch reading. I'd speak to them as this should put a hold on the bill until the read is resolved.
Pay something off the bill now so you can spread it out.
