Sun holidays - Scotland or Berwick upon Tweed /Whitby area..any tips..

we are planning to go for half term in october and want to choose between one of these locations.
Anyone been to any of the Scottish sun holiday offers and could give us some ideas for a couple with a toddler if any good. here is the list:
- Scotland150Park Resorts Eyemouth151Haven Seton Sands152Parkdean Tummel Valley153Parkdean Nairn Lochloy154Parkdean Grannie's Heilan Hame155Parkdean Wemyss Bay156Park Resorts Sandylands157Haven Craig Tara158Parkdean Sundrum Castle159Auchenlarie160Parkdean Southerness

someone else mentioned this to me:
148Haven Haggerston Castle149Haven Berwick Holiday Centre
though i have been told that the entertainment at Haven is not as good as pontins.

not sure about options for Whitby but wondered if it really is very much lots of chips type of place - read in tripadvisor.

also any idea of cost or cheapest option by train from london or how easy for travel if we are only on the train. thanks in advance.

I would stay away from Sandylands. It is a hell hole, lots of theiving goes on, and it is full of teens with nothing better to do than cause trouble.

I have been to Seton Sands, it is Haven but quite a small site and nice, it is near to musselborough which has quite a few shops and not too far from Edinburgh for the zoo and other attractions there..

Craig Tara is a large park with a great swimming pool (flumes, different levels, wave machine etc) it is also right on the beach. It has some mini rides and a bouncy castle.

Haggerston castle is a big park and has lots on it, the pool is quite small for the size of the park though. It has stables and you can go horse riding, it also has a few bouncy castles and mini rides.

I have been to whitby (stayed on a private site though), it is a lovely part of the country and near to Scarborougha nd Bridlington which has lots to do. I don't know what you mean by 'lots of chips type place' though, there are a fair few chip shops but a lot of fish is caught locally so maybe that is what they meant.

Berwick holiday centre is a bit like Seton sands in that it is smaller and quieter it is also a ten minute walk into berwick town centre which has a lot of shops.

If you are only travelling by train I would suggest either Seton Sands, Berwick Hol Centre, Craig Tara or Whitby depending on the location of the site, Haggerston Castle is in the middle of nowhere so not ideal if you want to leave the site.

I have never been on a Sun holiday, so don't know how they differ from just going on your own but I would imagine they would be similar although I am not sure if the fun passes are included and for some sites these are a must as you cannot get into the amusements, bars, swimming pool, food places without them.

I can thoroughly recommend Eyemouth Holiday Centre, been twice now. You get a pass for the local swimming pool which is a five minute walk away, as is the beach and town. It's a lovely little place, quite unspoilt, with a harbour where you can buy fish bits to feed the seals. The campsite itself is not too big, and everyone is very friendly. Excellent meals can be bought in the restaurant for a reasonable price - Sunday lunch great value, and the chef sings as he's cooking! You can go to Berwick on the train and get a bus from there to Eyemouth.
  • We´ve been to Sandylands and wouldn´t go back. Not because of any trouble though (we didn´t notice that?) but just cos it was so limited - very little entertainment and activities going on, next to railway line, also next to beach but can only get to it over the railway line (wire footbridge - not great with a toddler/buggy). I´ve not been to any of the others you mentioned, sorry!
:D Skint but happy with my lovely family :D

    Hypnotherapy rocks :j
  • Craig Tara is in a lovely location with gorgeous views. Right next door is Heads of Ayr Farm (?) which is fantastic. Ideal for young children, they have animals, rides etc. :j Also, Ayr itself has a lovely seafront & I seem to remember a big play area too.
Culzean Castle near Ayr is really nice to visit - it's National Trust so 'free' if you have membership. Again, plenty of things to keep toddlers amused.

Whitby is just gorgeous, we go there quite a lot. Lots of fish'n'chip shops because it's a fishing 'town'. The Magpie restaurant is the most famous & popular but there is a takeaway now if you don't want to queue & they do child portions! Yum! It is always VERY busy in Whitby & the cobbles in the old part are not that good for buggies! Parking can be a problem but it's free on the streets and you can usually find somewhere to park, even if it means a bit of a walk.
