BMI Baby pricing policy madness

Right, I'm looking at flights from CWL to EDI last week in July, either going there and back in a day or staying over night, not yet decided. Anyways, I saw that BMI Baby are doing a free flight promotion so thought I'd get a good deal. However it seems that the total cost for the so called "free" flights is MORE than paying £3.03 return plus tax. It's about £5pp MORE to go on a free flight than to pay. Seems ludacrious and once I add on the fact that I have to check in at the aiport because of my daughters pram it's pretty much priced me out of going. So annoyed becaue we've not seen my brother for ages and this was a special trip to visit him in his new home.
