can we emigrate with a UK mortgage?

Hi all

We are considering starting an application to emigrate into Canada, but would like to know if we would have to sell our house before we could move instead of renting it out. I know some countries specify this but I'm not sure about Canada.

Anybody know?

TIA

MM

not sure what you mean?? its not up to canada or any other nation what you do with your UK property????

Canada have no interest in your UK home???

Canada does want highly skilled people with perfect health and absolutely no criminal record whatosoever even a charge of nicking a choc bar at age 10 will cause all sorts of probs

take no notice of the rubbish article in the daily mail recently its was hogwash:rotfl:
the wait to get into canada is still 5 or 6 years for most folk

As far as I'm aware you can keep the mortgage. If you are planning to go into the BTL business however, you may need a doctor's letter to get into Canada.

    I live in canada
and I dont think the OP has researched immgration info?

you do need to have around $12,000 for one immigrant in available cash and then more by increments for each dependant but as it takes 5 years minimum its not really relevant at this stage
You are required to prove your avalable cash at your first point of entry when entering for permananant residence ( unless the OP has at least £400,000 to invest in canada?
without a job in canada or another source of income you simply wont get in
it aint the Uk where absolutley everyone is admitted no matter what , which is why I moved here:rolleyes:

How soft have our government been over the years letting in the scum of the world. (Yes I know some good ones have come in as well, before I get knocked back) but a few rules would be good, not just let them in and then ask questions. Unbelievable. We will be paying for it till the day we die. Thanks for that. (rant over)
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
  • Hi,

We applied to move to canada 3 years ago on a permanent visa, we are just at the stage now where we have to do medicals and have had to re-apply for updated police clearances so we should know by christmas wether we have the go ahead or not. We own our home over here and are planning to rent it out for the first 3 years to make sure we want to stay. There are no rules about whether you have to sell or keep your home but we felt it would be better to rent it out at first.

    hope this helps

  • Pretty sure you may have to declare any income from a UK rental property in Canada - the Canadian authorities will expect to tax you on all your income, not just a part of it. Have a look here but if you're still unsure you should consult a professional...

    I've just noticed this thread.

You can get into some parts of Canada very easily nowadays, especially BC and Alberta, as they have a bad labour shortage.

I got a job two months ago, I have no qualifications or money, and applied for a two year Temporary Work Permit, I'm due to leave in less than a month! While I'm there I can apply for permanant residence via one of the many other routes that are available.

I have found a fabulous emigrate forum which has helped me no end. Maybe take a browse around there, they have masses of advice!
