Keep it polite and reassuring, but really you should be waiting 15 working days = 3 weeks. By waiting only 7 you're creating possible problems (although if you go back on that now then it's a definite neg for you).

No the sender has to wait 15 working days, not the buyer. Giving them all the RM bumph will just make them assume they are going to have to wait even longer for their refund.

OP, your buyer is being unrealistic, they can't even open a paypal dispute yet as it is less than 7 days since they paid (I am asusming you sent the item as soon as they paid). I think I would again ask them politely to wait another day or two and if that makes them cross enough to leave a neg, then so be it.

My fault for not being clear, but what you said :) . I was just suggesting that the OP point out that RM say to leave 15 working days for delivery, so 7 days is being very generous.

had this last week for an item sent 3 weeks ago.
gave them a full refund as you have no other option
and im currently making a claim with royal mail for the lost parcel which was only worth £11.49.

i think ebay and paypal rules state the 15 working days to wiat before making a claim for non recieved item etc. maybe thats why there hasnt been a dispute opened on paypal yet.

The buyer can open a dispute after 10 days if an item is not received.

No, it is only RM that quote the 15 working days.

    hi all,
I have just started to clear out some unwanted items from my house through ebay. All Items do not exceed £15 per item but was wondering how I should send each item i.e is the first class standard post I offer is acceptable or should I be looking for more of a better 'fall back sceme'

    Thanks
With a little bit of luck we can make it through the night!

Standar dpost, ie 1st class, 2nd class and recorded delivery covers up to £36 of loss if a certificate of posting or recroded slip is retained. Recorded costs a further 72p and gives you no added insurance but if it shows as delivered online to the confimred paypal address then you won't lose a paypal chargeback.

However recorded is having problems and in my own case only around 20% of th eitems sent recorded ever show as delivered so I personally do not think it is worth it. Adding the additional 72p to each auction or postage charge may also make you look more expensive than your competitors, which is not good.

Thanks for a great reply, I also have come to the conclusion that with 'recorded' delivery it may also put off buyers thinking they have to walk to their nearest P.O to purchase their goods and is far more convienient to post straight through the letter box.

It seems with recorded is a day later than normal first class so I see your point, CHEERS!
btw-I'm not sure of the % of post that goes AWOL but if a ebay member has a 100% feedback on 20+ sells it should be okay!
With a little bit of luck we can make it through the night!

You do need to be prepeared for stuff to go astray, but as long as you keep your COPs safe and secure you can refund for any lost parcels and reclaim your own losses after 15 working days have elapsed.
