Car Hire in Portugal

I am off to Portugal in two weeks. I would like to hire a car for 16 days.

Is there any recommendations ? The choice is great and nothing beats satisfied customers.

Thanks

Try Guerin, where VERY cheap for me and give very good service.

Contact them directly, they do not have a website but I found their number:

    00351-22-2002363

    Alternatively book them through http://www.holidayautos.co.uk/

Due to other positive comments on this forum we chose www.economycarhire.co.uk who had the best prices, and there were no damage excesses. We had to wait a short time at Faro airport to pick up the car but I would definitely use them again.

don't know what these are like, came across the site when trying to find the rental company we used http://www.algarvedriver.com/

**found the one we've used a couple of times - called Autojardin. Googled it and directed to this site so it may be they have changed their name. They operate from Faro (so if you're not going there, this wont be much use) didn't have a desk, just a guy at the airport but they were fine. http://www.yor.cc/algarve-car-hire/auto-jardin-portugal.html **

Thanks, I have been busy on web and best deal seems to be Holidayautos at £404 for 16 days for a Ford Focus. Avis are £490 for same. This includes excess for CDW. I donn't want to end up with a small car as the kids are young adults now.

Try emailing Travelrent direct and ask for the lowest possible quote for the type of car you are after.

    email: travelrent@sapo.pt
    site: http://www.travelrent.pt/

Also say you have been told to quote "Casa Duas Ribeiros" to
    obtain a 10% discount.

They are good and a lot of bookings with Economy will get allocated a car with Travelrent anyway.

How about an A/C 5 door Hyundai Getz or similar for 331 euros +£30.40 for your 16 days. Go to http://www.carhirealgarve.net, choose car type A, uncheck "full insurance", 16 days starting 27 Aug is 331 euros. There is an online offer, free upgrade to B group for online bookings. Then go to http://www.worldwideinsure.com/, select carhire excess, select 16 days, £30.40

Returned from Portugal a couple of weeks ago. We flew to Faro with Monarch Airlines and hired a Renault esate car which we booked from the UK through Sixt on the Monarch website. We paid £165 for 1 weeks hire including CDW and insurance. There was a 1500 euro damage excess in resort which we covered with our credit card (no money was actually charged). I wasn't concerned about this because had already checked in advance with Sixt that their Carefree guarantee would refund any damage excess we had paid locally on our return to the UK.

Just a word of warning. When we picked up the car, they still tried to flog us the DEW which we didn't need as it was covered by Sixt Carefree Guarantee. Had I not done my homework beforehand that would have added another £100 to the bill.

As it turned out we had a damage free week and no problems. A bargain!:money:

I note the difference between a type A and a type b car is only 12 euros

I believe it is still as good a price as can be found.
As they say in the Tesco ads "every little helps" :D
