Hi - posted on behalf of a friend. When starting up their hp desktop, the initial bios screen appears (ie press F2 for setup etc) then they are presented with another screen that shows a set of options for starting the computer because of a power cut/bad shut down - safe mode, safe mode with networking, last known good configuration and start windows normally.

When selecting any of these options the computer shows the windows start up screen and then displays a BSOD saying that there is an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME.

I have done a quick search on this and it appears that using CHKDSK /f in the Recovery Console may fix this. They have the hp recovery cds so I assume they can get to windows recovery using these? Any one have any experience of this on hp desktops?
If it helps I managed to get to another screen that said cmdide.sys is corrupted.

Thanks in advance everyone ;)
