Purging old BT webmail settings from IE

Long story short.

Old, heavily-spammed BT email account now retired - cookies and other IE settings purged on multiple occasions - yet IE periodically logs into the old account for no reason.

I do still have the old account settings in Outlook (which I rarely use) but I never intentionally log on to the old account on this PC using IE.

It's weird, annoying and a bit worrying. Where is it getting the settings from? How can I stop it?

TIA...

Not sure if it's this, but have you tried Control Panel, Internet Options, Content, Autocomplete, Clear Forms and Clear Passwords?
  • The question is why keep the account?

I have had a few E-mail accounts, which have had your problem.

The solution, remove , delete, and wave good bye forever...

Open E-Mail,click Tools: Accounts: Click said account: Remove....*cries* but hey no more hassle...

Hey , even its a main account , save or write down contacts and send new E-mail to all..:T:T

    1. The remote chance that someone I like is still emailling me at that address :D
    2. I haven't yet resubscribed to maillings on my new address, and it reminds me to do so. (In theory!)

The account logs itself in after logging off, clearing cookies, deleting files... so I'm not sure deleting the account would make any difference to IE attempting to login again!

If you clear the remember passwords etc settings from IE, it can't log in unless you visit the webmail page of the account and log in.

If the settings are persisting, use the excellent, and free, CCleaner to delete all the cookies and cached data.

I'll try CCcleaner then, as I've definitely cleared the passwords (so annoying to put them all in again)

One of the things that's so odd is that it logs straight into the account despite me specifically logging out before clearing (again) the IE settings. For some reason I thought logging out meant you'd have to at least put the password in again!

Haven't got around to CCcleaner... but I got some error message ;)

The first one kept happening yesterday whenever I refreshed.

The second one is the one that pops up right before it kicks me off my new account and logs me back (not asking for password) into my old account. It did this 5 minutes ago.
Bearing in mind BT's webmail is only supposed to let you stay logged in for 2 weeks... and I haven't logged on using this PC for months!

Ok, judging by the way the error referes to an aplication, btyahoo have software which you install has this been removed?
on a side note, most ISP's periodically clear the unused email accounts from servers so if you are no longer with that isp you may never get mails back on it, have you tested it recently?

    I'm still with BT.
As far as I know there isn't any BT software on the PC, but I'll check. I thik 'The application' refers to the email 'session' - because nothing appears to crash after I click ok - my new account inbox just vanishes, and is replaced by the old one.

And have I tested it recently? Yes, yesterday, when IE spontaneously logged back into my old account :)

I've found the culprit - Trillian - which is still signing in with my old account settings. I start Trillian, and I'm booted off my new BT webmail account.

Now I just need to work out how to amend the sign in address without losing all contacts...
