please help with hijack

laptop running so sloooow came across vundo but vundo fix didnt find it so been doing a cleanup via malware thread all day

Hi barjam

I'm not a techie, but usually manage to sort this kind of stuff out on my own by researching, so I've gained a smattering of knowledge. That's a pretty big log, so if you haven't already, run any cleaners/scanners you have on your system. I see you have Ad-aware, Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware so let those do their thing, and use Ccleaner, Cleanup! or Windows' Disk Cleanup, or whatever you have.

When you've done all that, run HijackThis again, and just read down the list, mentally checking off any of the programs you think are okay for starters, such as the above anti-crapware programs. When you come to any you're unsure about, see if you can identify them with the help of the guy who wrote HijackThis here at Merijn.org.

That should keep you busy till someone else comes along.



I'll carry on looking up your log entries, but it does strike me that you have rather a lot going on there.. are you familiar with msconfig? I use that to keep a tight reign on what programs start up on my (ageing) machine: I'd rather start up most things when I want them running!

EDIT: I haven't read the malware thread: I'll have a look now. You said you'd been cleaning up all day, so you've probably done much of this. I'll keep looking to see if I can help (and to see if I can spot your Firewall.... lots of text *blinks* )

AVG 8 may be the cause of the slowness, try removing it and trying

and seeing if that makes the difference as AVG 8 is much more resource hungry than the old 7.5 version

That malware thread looks useful. I should've looked at it before I posted but I got quite excited at the prospect of being helpful and didn't want anyone to beat me to it! :rotfl:

I didn't like the look of those 'nameless' BHO entries either Browntoa, so I'm glad you said to fix those. I thought the others looked harmless enough, but not required, except the last one.. that looks suspicious, but I haven't found out what it is yet.

I just ran HijackThis and only had 24 entries, none of which I'm worried about (I do have a dozen or so entries in the Ignorelist though.) I only have 6 entries in my Startup list too. It's a shame my PC's a bit behind the times and my graphics card's dying, because I've got it the way I like it and it's been clean and stable for quite a while now; haven't had any 'nasties' for some time.. (I'll probably get one now! lol).

I'm off to read the malware thread more now, to see if there are any more programs I fancy! Hehe.
