Dell Inspiron 1501 updated drivers now not turning on

I've just updated the drivers and stuff using the dell website, and the laptop no longer switches on. Pressing the power button I get a short 1 second blow of the fan, the power light illuminates and then noting else. Pressing the power button again leads to the power light turning off. I've tried restarting with just the battery in, no battery in and the power adapter connecte, and also with the battery and power adapter connected. Same thing happens.
Any thoughts on how to solve this?
Thanks

1) Is it still under warranty?
2) It could be the power supply that's faulty and coincidence that this happened after updating drivers.0 -

It's more than likely just an unfortunate coincidence, but when a Dell does this, it's usually the motherboard/processor that's failed.
As it's not even starting, it's not even attempting to load the drivers, so it's nothing that you've done that's had this effect.A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -
Thanks for the quick replies.
Unfortunately the warranty ran out in June, and the battery and power pack seem okay, although the battery charging light isn't on when the power pack is attached.
I also noticed this morning that when loading up the keyboard was not usable for several minutes and then worked.
Seems like I need a new motherboard - any ideas on cost, or would it be better to buy another laptop?

You could try and get a quote from here, http://www.dellparts.co.uk/ and work out whether it's going to be cheaper to buy a new one.
Laptops are notoriously hard to take to bits unless you've done them before.
You can sometimes find the disassembly instructions around, but unless you're fairly confident on tasking things to pieces, this is one of the hardest jobs to do.A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -
