Car Rental question
Hi, a friend of mine had decided to sell he's car and then rent one over 3 years. He ordered it 7 weeks ago and was told to expect a wait of around 12 weeks. So far he has paid £100 admin fee and a furthur £298 for another admin fee. He was made redundant on Friday so obviously this is a luxury that he cannot afford, when the car is delivered he will be expected to pay a payment of £989 which he cannot afford to pay because of the loss of his job. He signed a pre contract but my question is can he cancel the contract as the car hasn't been delivered yet and will he lose all of the money that he has paid so far?

Take a look at the contract that should give all the answers you require.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

Hes looked at the contract but it only mentions cancellation of the contract once he has the car, nothing about cancelling before the car has even been delivered0

Anyone?

You will have to contact the company and ask them the position. Do it by telephone making sure you write down the full name of the person you have spoke to and the time and date of the conversation.
Then immediately cancel the contract but do it in writing putting these details in it
and send the letter by recorded delivery.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I've moved this thread to the Motoring Board

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. He spoke to them today and they are trying to see if it can be cancelled but it can take up to 24 hours before they hear back from the car makers. the dealer recons there could be a big cancellation fee which he wont be able to pay so what would happen then?0

I think you are asking the wrong people, ur friend needs to wait and see what they say and read the contract thoroughly, there must be something about cancellation fees on there0 -
The leasing company will offer the car to businesses or others at a reduced cost (or stick it on the forecourt). From my experience what they ask for in payment depends how easily they are able to reallocate the car your friend required (if someone else wants to take the car in place of an existing order maybe they wont lose anything). Also if it's still in the factory then the manufacturer will look down the list for any other orders with the exact same spec that your friend's car has and if one matches will simply deliver it to the other customer instead.
Really it depends how lucky you are and how customised the car is. If he ordered it in Yellow with pink trim then he'll probably find not many other people have ordered the same spec, but if its as standard in a popular colour they may be able to get rid of it easily.
If they cant shift it, they will probably ask for some money, the BVRLA would be the best people to contact for advice as most lease companies operate to their standards.matched betting: £879.63
