Going to Boston (USA)

I am thinking of going to Boston around 7th October for about 6 days. I am not going for the colours of the Fall but just to see Boston. I would like to stay in a B & B and explore the city on foot and by the 'T' Subway. I think the weather shoud be okay, autumnal but not cold. Has anyone been to Boston and can offer tips, advice etc?

cacti,
Its quite a while since i've been to Boston but it is a great city. October should be okay, I was there in November and it was freezing!!. The T is very easy to use and you can get it from the airport right into the city. There used to be a Freedom tour that takes you round the city (follow the red line from memory), the aquarium is very good as well. Filene's basement for bargains. I believe there is also a Duck tour there now that you can use to tour the city and the riverways.
If I remember anymore i'll post again.

Boston is great city to visit. i recommend doing a duck tour to see lots of the city and get yourself familiarized with the city layout.

There are all sorts of motorised tours of the city and a few walking tours as well, maps are available free and all of the main city sights are well signposted, the main park in the centre houses the 'state tree' from each of the 50 states and is a nice place to just sit and people watch.
Get youself a roving ticket for the 'T' and just go armed with a map and see the rest of the city, I heartily recommend the science museum especially the 'lightning' show.
Chinatown and the theatre district look a but dodgy but they are ok really, you can also walk the full length of the waterfront district and although you might be too late for the whale watching trips you might want to consider the 'dinner cruise' round the bay (needs to be booked).0 -
Agree with the Ducktour trip great fun if you get a good driver.
Its a very easy city to walk around, lots of good shopping and they have a chinese quarter if you fancy a good meal.
You can pick up a walking tour gide from the visitors centre just outside the park, lots of advice given there on things to see/do im sure you'll have a great time.My mind tends to wander............If found please return;)
I can spell...................I just cant type

Thankyou all, I am getting more excited by the minute. I have never been north of New York before. Boston seems a manageable city to explore, thanks again.0

I recommend the duck tour too, the drivers are knowledgeable and funny. We ate at a place called the Marche which was great, lots of different "stalls" with different types of food to choose from. I think it was near the Pru centre and I think there's a duck stop near it too. You'll have a great time.0

I had my honeymoon in boston in early october almost 5 years ago and the the weather was great. Do all the tourist things mentioned earlier plus if you get chance take a train out to Concord and spend a day out there. You should see some cracking folage and there is some good history (plus a fantastic ice cream shop)
As mentioned earlier, it is such a great city to walk about, do the freedom trail too!0
