So is that correct that Gmail wont allow the sending of .exe files.
Apart from zipping, Is there a setting I can change....?

I think its not individual setting problem, No one is able to send .EXE files as attachments."Money saving is often a science, investment is often an art."...MSE0

Cheers matey,, I thought so, Whats the point of having all this Gmail space
if you cant send one small attachment......... :rotfl:0 -
Gmail isn't intelligent enough to be able to take a guess at WHAT type of file it is, by running some algorithm on the byte/hex patterns. I dont think gmail will accept zip files which contain exe's... i think it checks inside the archive (and even inside archives which are inside archives which are inside archives etc etc)
You can just change the extension of the file to anything which is accepted (or give it a "double extension") and re-upload. Then when its downloaded, you can just change it back...
eg. test.exe... rename to test.exe.bak or test.bak or anything!
Ignore any messages about a file becoming "unstable", its a load of rubbish.
To easily manipulate extensions of files in windows xp, go to tools > folder options > view and uncheck hide extensions for known file types. Then when you rename a file in a window, you can change the files extension to whatever you want!0 -
I think you can post from gmail account to gmail account with .exe
I couldn't even send one inside a zip file last time I tried.0 -
Yeah I did that a while ago newfoundglory its just a pain if
a non tech guy the other end has to redo the extension...
But all that lovely Gmail space goes to waste really.0 -

It is said elsewhere that you can change the extension of ZIP files containing EXEs to (for example) ZAP (in fact a ZoneAlarm file extension), to allow it to be uploaded to GMail. It would seem that "some" extensions are checked for validity (e.g. TXT), and someone with a lot of spare time can test all possible combinations and undoubtedly come up with a definitive list! :shhh:

I actually meant a list of those extensions which are not (currently?) checked by GMail.
