But it's just a box with a number inside it isn't it?
You have to be a new customer to get any hardware and subscribe for a year.

Description of "sky starter pack" from another site.

    The Starter Pack includes:
    • Free Sky box - worth £169.99*
    • Sky dish*
    • Sky remote control
    • Standard installation
    • 1 or 2 months Sky viewing either:
      • 1 month of Sky World (normally £41 a month) or
      • 2 months of Sky Family Pack (normally £19.50 a month
    • Details of all channels and fitting information.
    • Free delivery
    *Delivered by a Sky Engineer

To activate the subscription, customers should phone Sky and quote the unique code on the starter pack, then arrange installation and provide details of the 12 month minimum subscription (a requirement of the pack, in addition to a fixed phone line). New viewers can take either package initially and change at the end of their first month.

Yes, but with Freesat about, people are looking for cheap hardware without the need to pay £180 in the first year for a subscription. The top post, doesn't make it clear a years sub is required.

The link was there so you could read about it but it did mention you sign up to the packages, but if you was thinking about getting this then at least the installation would be free. There is a cost otherwise isn't there?

We started with Sky recently + it cost £49 for the Sky box including free installation. We weretold it was normally £99. There seemto be so many different offers going up and down all the time, it's hard to know what the "real" price is. You might find thsi a bargain but Iwoudln't bank on it.
We chose to get Sky because we were paying £26 +£19 for Broadband and telephone, andwith Sky we would get both these and the cheapest TV package for £16 (+ line rental from BT£11 ) . Of course it's not really that cheap, cos already it's goingup to £18 in September + BT have worked out some nonsense by which we now have to pay them £24 pm direct debit - need to take that up with them, in my spare time..
I now wish I had just biten the bullet and had the longer aerial put in for Freeview (it didn't work with our present one) as now kids have got addicted to far too many shows!

No, you have to phone up and get a years subscription. The box only contains a reference number and a phone number.

    Hi,

Has anyone been and got this?...
I did, got the box today, rang Sky, quoted the reference to be told it was an invalid reference and couldnt be used!
So tomorrow I am taking it back to Woolworths as was advised by the Sky rep...to see what rubbish they come up with......
Anyone else had a problem with this??
