Just recently the OH laptop started experiencing a problem when running Thunderbird.

The laptop runs Vista and TB is configured to automatically go and download e-mails from ISP, Hotmail, etc on start-up. We've had the occasional problem in the past where the login failed or couldn't connect but this one is new and it is Windows displaying the eror message is basically:

Thunderbird has stopped working

Windows can check online for a solution to the problem

* Check Online
* Close the Program

(then we have all the details.........)
Problem Event Name APPCRASH
App Name Thunderbird.exe.
App Version 1.8.20080.42104
App Timestamp 480c804c
Fault Module Name ntdll.dll
Fault Module Version 6.0.6000.16386
Fault Module Timestamp 4549bdc9
Exception Code c0000005
Exception Offset 00061ad5
(....there is more but I can only type so much - need to figure out how to insert images :-(

If we click 'Check Online......' it just seems to go in to a black hole, i.e. no browser window pops up or anything.

Unfortunately I am unable to go in to my options and stop TB from automatically going on line to download e-mail - not enough time, and assuming this would allow me to somehow correct the problem.

Due to this I cannot go online to 'Check for Updates' and update. I have downloaded a later version (2.0.14.???), and whilst I can install the later version when I start TB and it trie to assimulate the update it cannot complete due to the above error.

Help, please, anyone, even if its what do I need to do to retain settings so I can uninstall / reinstall TB.

Many thanks cloud_dog
