CH cheap advertising suggestions needed please

Hello I hope this is the right board. Our Village Hall which is a registered charity is currently trying to raise money to build a kitchen extension, new toilets and better disabled access and a designated toilet for disabled people. We are doing all the usual fundraising events but I want to advertise them more but preferably free or cheaply. One of the neighbouring newspapers does a free lineage advert , we send in to the local radio station and deliver flyers to each house in the village as well as putting up Posters wherever we are allowed. Does anyone have any good ideas I was looking at A frames but they cost lots of money and I would like to make banners for events but am not sure how. I would be grateful for any suggestions
thank you

What you need is someone with a steady hand. Signs can be made using old bits of ply etc. You might need to paint them a neutral colour first, then sketch the outlines of the letters using pencil, and once you're happy with the layout paint in the letters using waterproof paint (if it'll be outside).

For banners, see if you can get some old ones advertising a product or service (businesses get sent them all the time). Turn them over and use the back for your message. Paint will flake off as it's flexible, so do the outlines then shade it in using a perement marker - this method can look suprisingly good.

As well as taking the free advert in the local paper is it possible that you can turn any of the events in to an article that the local papers may want to cover. The best way to do this is to actually write the article for them and send it in - if you can build up a relationship with a reporter this helps.

You will need a hook to get the papers interested. Are there any local celebrities that could open an event for you, for free of course. A couple of weeks before the event you have an article promoting that the local celeb will be opening the event, then on the day of the event you get the papers there with photographers for a follow up story.

Thank you both for your replies. I will try and take some pictures at our next event and send them in too the paper. We have a decided lack of celebrities in our village although our fair share of characters! I am always hoping one will move in. I will also try local firms for banners and see if we can reuse them . Thank you so much for your help. I have and old kitchen door I am going to repaint tommorrow and put up having got a friend to paint on it in someones garage. Thanks to you both again
