A long time ago [probably on "a dark & stormy night" too:rotfl:], I signed up for a lift share. Apparently no-one but us from around me commutes anywhere.

Has anyone in Wales had any success with lift shares?

About three years ago I used to drive a nine seater car and commuted from Cyncoed to Cardiff Bay, via Roath and town. I signed up to a car share scheme, saying that I was able to take eight people to work daily and I offered to do so free of charge. A bit like a free of charge bus, on one of the busiest routes in the city, at the busiest times. I didn't get one enquiry for the two years I was in the scheme.

I now ride a bike. I'm considering offering to take somebody to work on the back of my tandem and doing all the hard work. I doubt I'd have much success with that either though.

    :rotfl:

so it's not just me

Isn't this silly - I wonder why people won't do this? I asked someone who's relatively "green" and he came up with endless excuses! "I might need to go in at a different time, I might not need to go in that day, I might need to go somewhere else one day, I might not like the driver/passenger, I don't do mornings and need to be quiet, I want to think about work,......" What a load of twaddle! in other words, I want my car, I suspect.

    Yup. I think you're right.

People also come up with endless excuses for not cycling to work. Some of them are valid I suppose. But I've been doing it for a little over a year and now find it much easier than driving. In fact I sold my car a short time ago. We are now a no car family and I'm really quite enjoying it! I just don't think people want to move out of their little comfort zones, alone inside their metal boxes.

My Dad used to have a car share with 4 other men from his shift at Fords - he only used his car one week in five. It worked well for years and only stopped when he retired (the others might still be doing it).
Some of the lads in my office share - if one needs to go their own way after work, then they just opt out that day.

Think lift shares are great. Personally would love it rather than spending my time cramped and standing on bl00dy arriva trains!!

Only problem is my car is a 2 seater, so could only lift share/take turns with one other person! :D

If I may ask, heart_free, whence and whither are you travelling? In other words, where from and where to!

We could be on to something here ....

    Brecon to Cardiff

We've both got a village called Libanus near us! Just thought I'd lob a useless fact in :D

    I'm all for useless facts.

both towns also have a river. Admittedly the one in Blackwood is smaller and not a visitor attraction :D
