When I say that Banff is expensive I mean that the shops are mainly upmarket and cater to tourists with fat wallets. Like most locals I would never go clothes shopping there or looking for a bargain, even the grocery stores are more expensive than Canmore or Cochrane. I like it for gifts and window shopping though!

You will have a great time but for me Whistler is the tops Banff yes great and you will love it i am sure. We though went in the Summer months and arrived in Calgary for the Stampede this was a real treat to do. Cant say Jasper was too overpriced but yeh maybe a little more expensive although i have to admit we were only there for the one night as a stop on route.
I plan to go back again sometime and look forward to that day.
Oh and to note drinking age is 18 and that also means you must be 18 to sit in the hotel bar, restaurants are good for families but bars a no no for under 18s so please be aware of this when you plan to sit out your apres ski in the afternoon / evenings.
