Can't Use Freeview Box When Updating

We have a Phillips Freeview box which behaved itself for 6 months, but now it won't switch on between 20:00 and 21:00 when it seems to be 'updating.' The blue LED, which is lit when it's off (!) flashes on and off during this period, but we cannot get a signal from the unit during this time.
I know my Panasonic DVD/PVR updates itself around 03:00 and displays the word 'guide' at this time, but as I don't need it then, I've never checked if it is also out of commission when updating. However, 20:00 to 21:00 is peak viewing, so I suspect there's something wrong with the Phillips unit. Am I right.......or am I missing something?

I'm not familiar with your box in particular but there should be an option in the menu when you can set the update time. If you can't find anything there try the digitalspy forums as they may be able to help you with you specific model.0

Not sure about your box but on my old one I changed from "automatic update" to "manual update". Every once in a while I would set it away checking for updates when I went to bed.0
