Can't offer any help I'm afraid.I can only say that when this happened to me it was the motor on it's way out.Smelled funny for a couple of days and then stopped working.

Could it be the drive belt slipped/slipping?
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

If parts for it will cost close to or more than £65 then I'd say it's worth calling them out. £65 is what they charge and includes any parts it needs etc, my last repair they replaced £140 in parts inc motor, filter, cracked dust can, pipe (little hole in it ;) ) and wire (another little cut)

If its a burning rubbery smell, check the belt hasnt gone to one side and rubbing, or the brushbar is jammed up.
  • As mentioned above I would also highly recommend calling the dyson repair man out. When we had him round he replaced almost everything except the main body and motor, way over a hundred pounds worth of parts. Then when the motor went wrong only a couple of weeks later he fixed it for free as he'd already been so recently! Great value for money.

I hope you get yours sorted Op. Sorry but thought I would add my two penneth and not start a new thread. Funnily enough I had to clean the brushes on mine today as it wasn't really picking up, what a mess! I have really long hair and the brushes were totally wrapped up with hair that you could barely see the brushes so I cut it all off with scissors (unplugged of course). I have really long hair and it is the bain of my life with hoovers. It wasn't making a burning smell though but any advice on the damage I might be causing to my Dyson with this build up of hair in there would be useful. Check yours Op as it is surprising how quickly the brushes get clogged.

Sounds like the motor my dco7 animal was the same. The motor is cheap to replace £30 new. But to do it yourself is just not woth it. So hard to take apart i had to buy longer security bits (80mm i think) worst ever thing i haver ever had to fix & i'm the hands on type of person that fixes every thing.

    thanks everyone for the advice.

i checked the belt and its definately not that, so i think i will have to get an engineer out as several of you think it is worth the price

hi i had the engineer come and fix my dyson for £65. I am very pleased it is like a new hoover and the parts must have cost more than that as needed new motor new hose and he put all new filters and belts in as well.
