I had no intention of making a personal or inappropriate comment, and I apologise if I came across that way.

Thank you. Actually, I didn't consider your comment to be personal but thank you anyway. :o

I'm amazed at how difficult it is to ask for advice on this forum without people making personal, and frankly, inappropriate comments anymore

Unfortunately this forum is getting slowly killed by a few posters who seem to think playground type comments are funny and that we are all laughing. Quite frankly I am getting very tired of reading the same type of drivel from a certain couple of posters who constantly try to belittle people - it is just a form of bullying which I hope the forum guides/moderators will start to crack down on.

I said almost the exactly the same thing on another thread last week. Over the last few months, the whole spirit of this board has all but gone, and I doubt any new posters will ever return.

    Madmalteaser,
It is a shame you have had to reveal a lot of personal information in order to justify what I see is very straight forward complaint. Unfortunately the claim culture is looked upon by some as being a crime. However if a company cannot supply what it says it will supply and as a result financial consequences are caused then I say they are liable.

Debenhams advertise a 3-5 day delivery.
They deliberately lied to you and gave you false information about your right to cancel.

I wish you every success in your claim against them. By the way still waiting for my delivery!!

As other have mentioned the op should have had a back up plan. If everyone who wants compensation for something gets it the cost would just end up being passed on to the rest of us.

I would have had this better planned than the op. I don't want to end up paying because other people don't plan their lives properly or don't have back up plans for when things go wrong.

Here is what Lady Freda would had done.

1 Go to a decent retailler and buy dress
2 Go to the ball, remembering not to drink red whine!
3 Return dress to retiler saying they did not like it

    Enjoy

    (Freddie would had gone anyway!)
